Tech Walk: Natural Cyborgs
We live in a world completely operated by technology. What? You don’t believe me? Look at your mobile phones, your microwaves, your fans even. Technology is part of who we are.
Most of us subconsciously rely on technology and it continues to greatly impact our personal lives. A basic example of this would be the way we use social media to portray who we are in today’s society.
Amber Case who studies the symbiotic interactions between humans and machines says it best! “Technology is evolving us” says Amber Case, “as we become a screen-staring, button-clicking new version of homo-sapiens. We now rely on “external brains” (cell phones and computers) to communicate, remember, even live out secondary lives. But will these machines ultimately connect or conquer us?”
Imagine a world where we had no access to our phones or any other computing devices. This means no emails, no social networks, no google searches, no wikipedia, no Microsoft Office, no programmed reminders, not even an on screen clock. How will we survive?
We depend heavily on technology to get through our daily routines and it’s such an integral part of our being, that we fail to notice how much we rely on it.
We are society’s ‘Natural Cyborgs’.
